If you live in Southern Colorado you have probably heard of the “Weed Pimp Nation,” or the “Weed Pimps.” In light of this, you may have asked yourself who they are, what they do, and/or “WTF?” Let me put your questions to rest. 36-year-old Jason Bennett, aka “J-Dub,” and 31-year-old Dustin Rose, aka Dust, originally founded “Top Buds,” a local dispensary since 2009.

It began as a joke when Jason printed shirts with the words “Weed Pimp” on the back for himself and Dustin. They decided to start wearing the shirts and figured people would laugh and/or chastise them. Instead, folks were asking where they could get one! The guys enlisted the help of a friend to design a logo and the Weed Pimps were born. The design (resembling the Warner brothers logo) started selling like hotcakes and the rest is history. They offered designs for men and, eventually, Ganja Girl clothing and accessories for the ladies.

There have been misconceptions as to the meaning of the term “Weed Pimp.” It’s so much more than a flagrant term or a logo; it’s a lifestyle and a reputable business! In 2011, after working up to 14 hours a day at their dispensary, the guys departed to pursue their own clothing and accessory line, which includes custom screen-printing for various companies throughout Colorado.

Both Jason and Dustin have supported several local businesses by participating in rallies, activism and fund-raising events for high profile cannabis patients and non-profits. In 2011 the guys decided to start making their own videos on YouTube and started posting them on Facebook to spread the word about local MMJ community events and happenings. The videos provide networking for local businesses, artists and musicians in what’s dubbed as “The Daily Dose.” Jason always includes a message of positivity and then simply speaks about whatever is “on his mind at the time.”

The WP Nation has grown over the last few years to include anyone and everyone wanting to partake of this new level of cannabis culture with positivity and have some fun in the process! Some of the many family events they have sponsored include BBQ’s, water wars, mini golf, baseball games, camping and various other events. “We like to have fun and network with our community. These events are a chance for us to all come together as one and enjoy life,” Jason explains. “We’re all about community,” Dustin adds.

Recently, along with the support a friend, they held a fundraiser for a single mom in Colorado Springs suffering from Lupus. With the support of the cannabis community and a great turnout, they were able to raise over $1,300 for her family. The guys have also helped sponsor many fundraising events in the last few years by donating merchandise for raffles at events like Cannabis Cares 1, 2 and 3 and Bowling for Loralai.

“Everyone knows someone that needs or could benefit from cannabis. It’s up to us all to spread the word about its positive effects and to be actively involved. What if you had a medicine right in front of you and you knew that it could benefit someone in your family? What would you do? If you knew of something that could help someone, you would tell them, right? We spread the word about it as often as we can,” says Dustin.

It’s pretty safe to say that anyone in the Springs that has a personal connection with the Weed Pimps loves ‘em. So much in fact, that a local edible and spa company, Tincturebelle, introduced its first WP character, “Dabby the Weed Pimp” to its assets. The lovable little cartoon with the WP logo on its shirt stares out from the packaging of one of its most popular edibles, the “Dabby Nut Roll.” You may also find the guys co-starring in “82 Bronco,” a music video by local musicians Melvin Hott and Grey Sinatra. “My Bronco, myself and J-dub had a blast making it.” says Dustin. “We are huge supporters of local music and have built some great friendships with a few national acts as well, such as Redman, Coolio and Led Zeppelin.”

2012 was another big year for Jason and Dustin. Launching the first mobile advertizing trailer geared for the cannabis industry was no easy task. “We approached the cab, bus stop and billboard advertisers and, after being rejected from all, we were forced to come up with another idea.” So early in 2013, the guys helped launch the FIRST legal recreational cannabis club in Colorado Springs. The rest of this year they will focus on their new website and clothing designs.

In summation, the wheels are constantly turning for these popular entrepreneurs and you can never be quite sure of what they will come up with next. If you know what’s good for your MMJ-supporting conscience, you’ll keep tabs on these Weed Pimps…
